Hi:) For everyone asking how to get the background with the lines: I made it in a drawing software called firealpaca, it’s free to use! But any drawing program or app that allows you to see where the middle is would do! Or you could use an editing app or befunky.com or something like that. If you do a google image search for «line transparent background» for instance (or make your own in a drawing software), you can edit that png by doubling it and turning one of the layers 90°, to get a straight cross. I think I doubled the layers in the background I used, and turned the top layer just a little, you can see that it looks a little «tilted» to one side. To be honest I made that background years ago, I don’t remember exactly. Oh, another solution could be to have one black frame with the right proportions for imovie, and then making a collage with four of that same frame, with a little white spacing to see the lines. Befunky will allow you to do that as well. Hope that helped, good luck!
Thank you , our band is apart because of the quarantine. This will be great to put together each members Home video part when they send them to me. BTY Nice voice and performance .

Or can I simply use the audio from the video as long as the videos are synced properly? Is it an "either one will work" situation, or is one definitely better than the other?
Hi! In theory, both will work. But if you want to mix your sound a little, you can’t do that in imovie. I think I would recommend recording your sound into garageband or another daw while you’re filming, and then mixing the sound (adding reverb or whatever) before exporting it to an audio file, and syncing the file with the videos in imovie. I'm glad you liked it! I actually recorded the voices in garageband while I was filming, so I used the metronome in garageband:) And then I edited the vocal track and made an mp3 that I synced with the footage in imovie!

Hei!
Tusen takk for raskt svar!

Hi:) I made it in firealpaca! But I think you can do it in any drawing program that has straight lines:) or you can probably find something on a google image search as well!
Hi Ida, you have a lovely voice! What size did you make your background? It looks like it is a solid black with white crosshair lines, but what size is the rectangle?
Hm, maybe it’s the issue with imovie showing the center a bit off center sometimes? I guess the way to fix it is to try again with the first frame and make it a little bigger? I think that’s what I’d do:)
Thanks for the idea! When I try this by the time I get to the third or 4th video the first one has started to drift out of sync with audio. Any tips on that?
I’m glad you liked it! But I don’t think I can help you with the sound problem, I’ve never experienced anything like that! Unless it’s just lagging in imovie cause the project is getting bigger? In that case, it would work fine once you export it!
I’m sorry, I guess I made this video for people who were already quite used to using imovie. This video is very old, from before the imovie app took off. I got a lot of questions about how to do this on a video with four split frames, so I made a video trying to explain what I did:)
Thank you! And sorry, I didn’t want to make the video too long. I guess it’s more intended for people who have used imovie a bit! But keep trying & working on it, and you’ll get it sooner than you think:) good luck!
You lack step by step instructions on how you recorded the videos, what you used and how to use the software to place your videos on the screen. You lost me!
Yes, this video was just supposed to cover how to actually split the screen in 4 video frames! I think it would have been to long if I was to cover the whole video-making process. But I’m sorry I lost you! I have made another video about how I film & edit, and what I use to do it, so that might help you: ruclips.net/video/QPLhKdSPlYA/видео.html good luck & have a nice day:)

How did u get the background with the guide lines
Hi:) I made it in a drawing software called firealpaca, it’s free to use! But any drawing program or app that allows you to see where the middle is would do! Or you could use an editing app or befunky.com or something like that. If you do a google image search for «line transparent background» for instance (or make your own in a drawing software), you can edit that png by doubling it and turning one of the layers 90°. To get a straight cross. I think I doubled the layers in the background I used, and turned the top layer just a little, you can see that it looks a little «tilted» to one side. To be honest I made that background years ago, I don’t remember exactly. Oh, another solution could be to have one black frame with the right propotions for imovie, and then making a collage with four of that same frame, with a little white spacing to see the lines. Befunky will allow you to do that as well. Hope that helped, good luck!

Hi Ida, you have a lovely voice! What size did you make your background? It looks like it is a solid black with white crosshair lines, but what size is the rectangle?
thank you dear, you make everything simple!
+1 coffee for your voice ;)
I’m glad you liked it! And thank you so much♥️
When I do split screen, I get a bit of black space in between my two videos. How to fix this?
Hm, maybe it’s the issue with imovie showing the center a bit off center sometimes? I guess the way to fix it is to try again with the first frame and make it a little bigger? I think that’s what I’d do:)
Great video, It also sounds like you have a tinge of Scottish accent haha ever been before?
Thank you! I’ve never been to Scotland actually! The accent is Norwegian^^
Can i do that un all version of iMovie?
I don’t know if you can do it on an iphone/ipad, I’ve never tried that:)
@@idatherese i have a 2011 iMac, and my iMovie version is not the last, that's was my question, sorry for muy english
Oh, then I guess it would work! You can at least try:) My mac is from 2016 btw
Does it lose quality each time u export?
No, that stays consistent:)
Thank you. When i try to export in best quality my first frame seems quite poor after 5 times
this is i movie on your iphone or mac?
Hi:) It's on mac! I haven't used iMovie on iphone before, sorry!
In that case, it would work fine once you export it!
how do you get the frame background ???
I made it in a drawing program called firealpaca, it’s free to download and quite easy to use:)
But I guess you could use any drawing program that has straight lines!
Great!
Is this posible with the iPad version?
I’m glad you liked it!:) I’ve never tried imovie on an ipad, so ai don’t know how that works, sorry!
idatherese no problem, 😉
I have no clue what you are explaining, as you have not explained if this is a program or an app, nor are explaining step by step.
I’m sorry, I guess I made this video for people who were already quite used to using imovie. This video is very old, from before the imovie app took off. I got a lot of questions about how to do this on a video with four split frames, so I made a video trying to explain what I did:)
hahaha so swedish >.
Actually norwegian but yeah😂
You’re voice is great but you didn’t go step by step so it doesn’t work for people new to this type of editing.
Thank you - a really helpful video!
Thanks! I’m glad I could help:)
So helpful, thank you!
Glad you liked it:)
